Nephew

Nephew is Denmark’s self-proclaimed “way to rock”.

My first impression of their music is that it is easy to the ear, reminiscent of U2, REM and Keane. A quick stroll through Wikipedia tells me their biggest inspiration is Depeche Mode, which also makes sense!

The Roskilde Festival official website takes us down memory lane:

Roskilde and Nephew share so many great memories. Dating way back to 2000, a then-unknown band played our Camp Stage. Since then, the young nephew grew older, found a wide audience and played Roskilde further three times: 2004, 2007 and 2010. The 2007 concert was documented on the live release 07.07.07 and stands as a true Nephew and Roskilde highlight.

Nephew has released five albums, they have sold over 400,000 copies, won numerous music awards and have on several occasions been cited as Denmark’s biggest rock band. Taking inspiration from Depeche Mode, Rammstein and Danish band Kliché, Nephew moulded a special sound that is entirely their own.

Their live shows have always been a true spectacle. Huge productions, setlists full of hits and often with surprising guest appearances. Nephew as a band has always worked like a well-oiled machine!

Today, the five gentlemen in Nephew have invited Marie Højlund, known from the band Marybell Katastrophe, into the fold as a sixth member. What that means for the band’s sound will be revealed this summer at Roskilde Festival 2018. We have cleared the Orange Stage for Nephew’s return. This is their homefield, after all. You can look forward to a very special concert, that’s for certain.

I’m definitely going to have to work on my Danish (which I’m really trying) because I’m really liking what I’m hearing in their new material but am missing out on the lyrics. I wonder what they have to say about my nation’s capital?
